The Reading Ray
The Reading Ray is a stylish reading assistant, sometimes known as a book page holder, book page spreader, thumb page holder, thumb page spreader, or book thing. The Reading Ray helps hold a book’s pages open for comfortable, one-handed reading. It can be used for a secure grip on an open book with either the thumb, at the bottom of the book, or with a finger, at the top of the book. It's double-sided to fit either small or large books.
Rays are made primarily from polylactic acid (PLA), a thermoplastic made from biomass such as corn starch or sugar cane. The filaments from which the Rays are printed are sourced from a US supplier and manufactured in the US.
Reading Rays are made in a wide variety of colors, textures, and materials, so there's something for every reader. Some are sparkly, some are smooth, some are rough, and some even glow in the dark! The process of making all these different styles was a joy for me, and I hope one (or more) of them brings you joy as well.
Currently, there are 125 different Reading Rays organized into collections based on the type of material they are made from. Each collection brings a unique look and feel, from the vibrant colors of the Rainbow collection to the premium feel of the Plant, Stone, and Metal collections.
Most Rays are extremely light, with most weighing under one third of an ounce, so they don't weigh down your reading. For a slightly more solid feel in the hand, the Metal Collection Rays are made from metal composites with more heft, around half to two thirds of an ounce, depending on the metal.Rays are made primarily from a material called polylactic acid (PLA), a thermoplastic made from biomass such as corn starch or sugar cane. The filaments from which the Rays are printed are sourced from a US supplier and manufactured in the US.
All Reading Rays are made by me in my basement in Baltimore, MD, USA. The primary shape is 3D printed using my own model design, and I finish them by hand to ensure great quality. The Rays are printed at very high quality such that one has to look very closely to tell how it was made--these are not your typical cheap prints with ugly layer lines!
Reading Ray Dimensions: 4.85" wide x 1.6" tall x 0.6" deep. The hole is 1" in diameter to fit anyone's finger or thumb comfortably.
